Fraunhofer FIT welcomes Japanese-European EJEA Conference 2023

Press release /

From October 24 to 26, the international Networking Conference of the European Japan Experts Association (EJEA) will take place at the Fraunhofer Institute Center Schloss Birlinghoven. This year, the meeting of researchers and business professionals carries the motto “Riding the Digital Wave into the Future: Chances, Risks and Actions for Japan and Europe”.

Focusing newest technologies

As a multi-day event, the conference offers a unique opportunity for networking, innovative scientific impulses, and insights into the business location Bonn/Rhein-Sieg.

The conference program includes contributions on topics such as digital transformation and sustainability, artificial intelligence (AI), security in cyberspace and sensor technology. Social aspects in dealing with AI and digital technologies are also covered. Large Language Models like ChatGPT are in the center of social discussions. They raise the question of authorship of complex literature and require that algorithms only collect secure information from the internet. In his keynote “Contributing to the Digital Transformation with ChatGPT and LLMs”, Prof. Stefan Decker, Director of Fraunhofer FIT, focuses on the opportunities that such language models offer. In doing so, he covers latest research results and gives a deep insight into AI and its domains of application. With contributions like this, the conference succeeds in facilitating scientific exchange and initiating developments for dealing with new technologies.

Fraunhofer FIT is hosting and co-organizing the EJEA Conference with the universities of Linköping (Sweden) and Kagawa (Japan). With top-class keynote lectures as well as panel presentations and discussions, the conference encourages international cooperation. This comes in line with the European Commission's EU-Japan Digital Sponsorship. The aim of this cooperation is to future-proof and promote Germany, Europe and Japan in times of technological change. Hence, the EJEA Conference 2023 forms an important part of the wide range of activities that Fraunhofer FIT shares with Japan.
