Director

Prof. Dr. Stefan Decker

Effective September 1, 2015, Prof. Stefan Decker was appointed Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, joining Prof. Matthias Jarke in this position. At the same time, Prof. Decker was appointed Full Professor of Information Systems and Databases at RWTH Aachen University. On 1st July, 2018, Prof. Dr. Matthias Jarke turned his position as Executive Director of FIT over to his colleague, Prof. Dr. Stefan Decker.

Since 2006, Stefan Decker served as Professor of Digital Enterprise at the National University of Ireland, and as Executive Director of the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Galway. Decker studied Computer Science at University of Kaiserslautern, completed his doctorate at the Business Faculty of Karlsruhe Technical University and did post-doctoral research work at Stanford University and the University of Southern California.

Prof. em. Prof. (OM) Dr. Matthias Jarke

Prof. Matthias Jarke was the director of Fraunhofer FIT from Jan. 1, 2000 to Feb. 28, 2021, besides holding the chair of Computer Science 5 (Information Systems) at RWTH Aachen University. Currently, Prof. Jarke still is co-speaker of the Internet of Production cluster of excellence at RWTH Aachen University and chairman of the University Council of TH Köln. From 2010 to 2016, in his role as chairman of the Fraunhofer Information and Communication Technology Group, Prof. Jarke was a member of the Fraunhofer Presidential Council. From 2004 to 2007, Prof. Jarke was president of the German Informatics Society (GI) and from 2002, founding director of the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it), jointly supported by RWTH Aachen University, University of Bonn, and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

Prof. Jarke received his doctorate in business informatics from the University of Hamburg after completing a double degree in computer science and business administration. He held professorships at the Stern School of Management at New York University and at the University of Passau before joining the faculty of RWTH Aachen University in 1991. Prof. Jarke was awarded the Fraunhofer Coin and the Fraunhofer Medal. He is a full member of acatech, the National Academy of Science and Engineering, and a Fellow of the professional societies ACM and GI, as well as a RWTH Fellow.  Prof. Jarke holds an honorary professorship at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), whose faculty of Computer Science and Engineering he established as founding dean between 2007 and 2012.
