After three years of significant overall growth, a few indicators leveled off in 2024. The operating budget rose to a new record of over € 29.7 million (compared to € 27.4 million in 2023), while total third-party funding reached an impressive € 23.3 million in 2024, nearly matching the 2023 record high of € 23.8 million.
Contract research revenues increased by 5 percent year-on-year to € 8.4 million. Meanwhile revenues from German and European research grants and other sources declined by 5.7 percent, totaling € 14.8 million. Revenues from all external sources covered 78.3 percent of our operating budget (against 86.9 percent in 2023), while the share of the operating budget covered by contract research revenues (Rho-Wi in Fraunhofer parlance) was 28.4 percent (29.3 percent last year).
In 2024, the number of FIT personnel increased by 4.4 percent compared to 2023, reaching 215 full-time equivalents. Including student assistants and interns, Fraunhofer FIT employed approximately 450 people in 2024.
