JUPITER AI Factory

The JUPITER AI Factory (JAIF), a central pillar of Europe’s AI infrastructure, has been established in Jülich. It provides access to JUPITER, Europe’s first Exascale-class supercomputer for start-ups, SMEs, or big industrial companies. JAIF is also open to research institutions and the public sector.  Several leading German AI institutions, including Fraunhofer FIT, have joined forces in the JAIF project.

 

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Building in Bayreuth

About 100 guests from politics, science, and business attended the groundbreaking ceremony on October 22, 2025. It marks an important step in establishing the institute for the long-term in Upper Franconia and Bavaria. The new building for the Business & Information Systems Engineering Department of Fraunhofer FIT is located in the immediate vicinity of Fraunhofer IPA. 

 

Twin Transformation Research Campus

In September 2025, the Branch Business & Information Systems Engineering of Fraunhofer FIT and the Process Innovation Project Group of Fraunhofer IPA launched the Twin Transformation Research Campus in Upper Franconia. It will support the digital and sustainable transformation of regional companies through cutting-edge applied research, thereby strengthening competitiveness and ensuring the region’s long-term viability.

 

Virtual Worlds Association

The newly founded Virtual Worlds Association (VWA) is a European alliance for useful, open and human‑centered virtual worlds. More than 20 organizations from eight countries join forces to strengthen Europe’s leadership in research, innovation and standardization of virtual worlds. One of the two VWA vice presidents is Dr. Leif Oppermann from Fraunhofer FIT. 

 

50 Years of Producing Data for Evidence-Based Economic Policy

On July 1, 2025, some 120 guests from the worlds of politics, business, and research gathered at Schloss Birlinghoven to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Microsimulation and Econometric Data Analysis group at Fraunhofer FIT. On behalf of different ministries, the researchers analyze and assess the impacts of policy measures under discussion in taxation, education, social, family, and environmental policy. 

 

Why Eligible Students Don’t Apply for BAföG

Many students forgo financial support from BAföG – even though they’re actually eligible. Up to 70 percent of those eligible do not file applications. Two studies by the Max Planck Institute for Collective Goods and Fraunhofer FIT indicate that misperceptions about eligibility requirements, parental income, and repayment terms are the main causes. 

 

"AI Manager" Certification Course a Great Success

The AI Manager certified professional training course, which Fraunhofer FIT launched in 2025, is a resounding success. Whether it’s AI vision, AI use cases, or AI implementation – the curriculum covers the knowledge that companies need in the strategic implementation of AI applications. The courses are aimed at executives and project managers.

 

Hannover Messe 2025: Generative AI & Data Spaces

At Hannover Messe 2025, Fraunhofer FIT demonstrated its extensive expertise in the fields of data science, generative AI, and human-centered innovation. Using examples of real-world application, we showed how these technologies can create added value for companies and institutions.
