Fraunhofer FIT is working with Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs-GmbH (SWBV), which provides public transport in the city of Bonn and adjacent municipalities, as a technology consultant and project manager in a number of its current IT projects. These projects include upgrading the incident message recording system, planning a new operations control center and refurbishing their light rail and streetcar stops. Our expertise ensures processes are more efficient, secure and sustainable. We also help SWBV to find innovative solutions in the areas of retrofitting and cloud strategies.

Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs-GmbH (SWBV) is driving the digital transformation of its infrastructure. Fraunhofer FIT is supporting this process as a technology consultant and project manager in several of their strategic projects. Our collaboration covers incident message recording, control center planning, digitization of the communication infrastructure of their light rail and streetcar stops, IT retrofitting measures and cloud strategies.

In the project to upgrade incident message recording, a system is being developed that makes the recording and processing of incident messages more efficient and user-friendly. We are paying particular attention to intuitive usability in order to enable fast and error-free message input even under heavy workloads.

Another key project is the planning of a new operations control center, which is to be up and running by 2031. Fraunhofer FIT is analyzing the existing working conditions, processes and technologies and developing a vision for future operations control. Our analysis encompasses not only technological aspects but also ergonomic, organizational and interpersonal factors.

In the DigiDaFa project SWBV is modernizing the IT infrastructure at its approximately 80 light rail and streetcar stops, focusing on digitizing the data transport network and passenger flow monitoring. The project will upgrade video surveillance technology, emergency call systems and hazard detection systems. It will also extend communication networks and integrate a comprehensive data protection scheme. Fraunhofer FIT is supporting this digital transformation process with a focus on creating sustainable and user-friendly IT systems.

Fraunhofer FIT is advising SWBV on retrofitting measures to keep their existing IT systems operational and on implementing a future-proof cloud strategy. These measures are essential for SWBV’s long-term operation and ensure efficient and sustainable digitization.

Fraunhofer FIT’s scientific expertise and innovative prowess make it a relevant partner for SWBV on the way to a modern, highly effective and sustainable IT and communication infrastructure for SWBV’s vital transportation services.
